Blinds, Shutters and Shades

Bay windows are an awesome piece to any room. Many times however, people become overwhelmed about how to measure their openings, or what type of blinds or shades they should use for them. This is where its important to look at the decor of a room, and which room the bay windows are located in.

Do you have an idea of how large the window openings are? Will you be having a lot of quests in the room? Will it be more of a private area that you wish to have the window fully covered?

Because of the space you have available with bay windows, you won’t want to use vertical blinds. This could be a potential disaster if you want to make the most of the window area. Instead think about how much the use of decoration around the window could improve and enhance the area. To start, you may want to add some books and even some stuffed animals.If you want to highlight this area, then a heavy blind would block out a little too much light.

Why not go with a shade? Honeycomb shades can be an excellent way to just let a tiny bit of light through, which really looks like just an illuminated shade. This will add a nice flare to the decor of the room, and still give the privacy you need since honeycomb shades have several open layers of fabric. This way you can pull the shade up to the desired level if you need and let more light in should you decide to read at your bay window.

If you do want to go with more traditional blinds, and cost is an issue, then you could go with some thin 2 inch blinds which will fit nicely as well. You should be able to pick up some blinds online or at your local Lowes and Home Depot depending on what you are willing to spend.
